Signs and symptoms of PTSD
Intrusion Symptoms

Negative Changes in Mood and Cognition
- Difficulty remembering details of the traumatic event
- Negative thoughts about yourself, other people, or the world
- Hopelessness about the future
- Loss of interest in activities that were once considered enjoyable
- Change in habits or behavior since the traumatic event
- Difficulty maintaining close relationships
- Feeling detached from family and friends
- Difficulty experiencing positive emotions
- Feeling emotionally numb
Changes in Physical and Emotional Reactions (Arousal Symptoms)
- Being easily startled or frightened
- Always being on guard for danger
- Trouble concentrating
- Trouble sleeping
- Irritability, angry outbursts or aggressive behavior
- Self-destructive or reckless behavior, including self-harm, such as drinking too much or driving too fast
Many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency.
